A Travellerspoint blog

What we have been up to

this month so far..

Hello lovely few readers :) I am getting used to having a blog haha.. Here we are in what we have heard is the best weather of the whole year in Guangzhou! It truly is nice. Breezy and sunny, not too hot. Still mosquitoes, but I am just spraying myself every minute. So we have been painting, and exploring a lot lately. Our jobs as english tutors keeps us running into the city twice a week, so we are all over the place. We got to see a couple of art exhibits lately, one in the city and also here at school. Enjoy the pics!

Biking the Island and Shamian Island

running around

So we managed to bike around the whole island this time, and do a little painting and drawing. We had a few incidents of bike chains coming off and pedals falling off, but it was still fun! Here's some pics.

Yay, and then we went into the city to a place called Shamian Island. This was apparently a small island where French and British businesspeople were allowed to build wharehouses and places to live, and now it has some nicely restored old European buildings there. They have been converted into banks, shops and restaurants. There are also a few galleries there and we saw one of the shows.

Happy November!

:)

semi-overcast

Here is a run down of a few highlights of the end of October. We were invited to see one of our professor's studios in Panyu, a nearby city. The building houses many contemporary artists, many who graduated from GAFA. The spaces were beautiful and the work was inspiring to see, of course our professor is amazing.

Here is Steph and Javier with Professor He and his wife, who runs a school they started for children to learn art.

IMG_3090.jpg
The program stimulates the children's creativity as opposed to the old way of teaching, which was copying a photo or master drawing. This way the children learn to develop ideas themselves.

And we did have a Halloween party in China :) Lots of fun!
